Description

The DuraVent PelletVent Pro Wall Strap, part number 4PVP-WS, is the wall support strap for the PelletVent Pro 4-inch double-wall vent system for pellet, corn, biofuel, and oil appliances. The wall strap is used to support PelletVent Pro vent pipe sections and tee sections against a wall or structural surface, keeping the vent run anchored, aligned, and correctly spaced away from the wall throughout the installation.

The 4PVP-WS provides a fixed 1-inch clearance between the vent pipe outer wall and the wall surface to which it is mounted, maintaining the minimum required clearance to combustibles at each support point along the exposed vent run.

The PelletVent Pro system is a double-wall, air-insulated vent system designed for stoves and inserts that burn wood pellets, corn, biofuels such as switchgrass and coffee husks, and oil. Its inner wall is constructed of corrosion-resistant superferritic stainless steel and its outer wall is laser-welded galvalume steel — a construction specifically engineered to resist the acidic condensate produced by the low-temperature flue gases of pellet and corn-burning appliances, which would rapidly corrode conventional stainless steel or galvanized steel.

The PelletVent Pro system is rated for continuous use at flue temperatures up to 570°F and requires only 1-inch clearance to combustibles, one of the smallest clearance margins available for any residential venting system. Twist-lock connections require no gaskets or sealants.

The 4PVP-WS wall strap is listed to UL 641 and ULC S609, and the outer diameter of 4-inch PelletVent Pro pipe is 4-5/8 inches. An adjustable version providing 1 to 3 inches of clearance is available separately as the 4PVP-WSA.

What's Included: One DuraVent 4PVP-WS PelletVent Pro 4-inch wall strap providing fixed 1-inch clearance between vent pipe and mounting wall surface.

Installation Limits: Provides fixed 1-inch clearance to combustibles. For use with PelletVent Pro 4-inch vent pipe and tee sections only — not compatible with other vent systems. All installation must comply with the appliance manufacturer's installation instructions, the PelletVent Pro installation instructions, and local building codes. An adjustable wall strap providing 1 to 3 inches of clearance is available as 4PVP-WSA.

Compatibility: Compatible with the DuraVent PelletVent Pro 4-inch double-wall vent system for pellet stoves and inserts, corn-burning appliances, biofuel appliances, and oil appliances with a 4-inch vent outlet.

Product FAQ

What is the PelletVent Pro system and how does it differ from a Class A chimney or direct vent system?

PelletVent Pro is a double-wall, air-insulated vent system designed specifically for pellet stoves and inserts, corn-burning appliances, biofuel appliances, and oil appliances — it is not a Class A chimney system and is not a coaxial direct vent system. Its defining design feature is its inner wall of corrosion-resistant superferritic stainless steel, specifically engineered to withstand the acidic condensate produced by the relatively low-temperature flue gases of pellet and corn-burning appliances, which would rapidly corrode conventional stainless steel or galvanized vent materials. A Class A chimney system such as DuraTech operates at much higher flue temperatures and is designed for wood-burning and all-fuel appliances, while DirectVent Pro is a coaxial sealed combustion system for gas appliances only. PelletVent Pro components are not interchangeable with either of those systems.

Why does PelletVent Pro require only 1-inch clearance to combustibles?

The 1-inch clearance to combustibles permitted for PelletVent Pro is one of the smallest clearance margins available for any residential venting system, and it is possible because pellet and corn-burning appliances produce flue gases at significantly lower temperatures than wood-burning or oil appliances — the system is rated for continuous use at flue temperatures up to 570°F. The double-wall, air-insulated construction of PelletVent Pro keeps the outer wall cool even at these flue temperatures, and the combination of the lower operating temperature and the insulating air space between the walls allows the system to safely maintain only 1 inch from combustible wall and ceiling surfaces. This minimal clearance requirement is one of the significant installation advantages of pellet appliances with PelletVent Pro venting in retrofits or tight installation spaces.

What is the difference between the 4PVP-WS and the 4PVP-WSA adjustable wall strap?

The 4PVP-WS provides a fixed 1-inch clearance between the vent pipe outer wall and the mounting wall surface. The 4PVP-WSA is the adjustable version that can be set to provide between 1 and 3 inches of clearance, allowing the spacing between the pipe and the wall to be varied as needed for the specific installation geometry. The adjustable 4PVP-WSA is particularly useful when vent pipe sections must be spaced farther from the wall to clear baseboards, trim, or other obstacles, or when the installer wants to set a consistent visual spacing between the pipe and the wall that is greater than the minimum 1-inch required clearance. Both straps perform the same function of supporting the pipe and tee sections against the wall — the choice between them depends on whether a fixed or adjustable clearance is needed.

Can the 4PVP-WS be used to support tee sections as well as straight pipe sections?

Yes. The 4PVP-WS is confirmed for use to support both vent pipe sections and tee sections in a PelletVent Pro 4-inch installation. Tee sections are particularly important to support because the tee configuration creates a cantilevered load on the vent run — the horizontal or angled branch of the tee, the clean-out cap at the tee bottom, and any pipe sections connected to the tee branch all add weight that is concentrated at the tee location and would stress the vent pipe connections above and below the tee if it is not independently supported against the wall. The wall strap at the tee location transfers this load directly into the wall structure rather than through the vent pipe joints, maintaining proper alignment and preventing joint stress at the tee connection.

Why does PelletVent Pro use superferritic stainless steel rather than standard stainless steel for the inner wall?

Superferritic stainless steel is used for the PelletVent Pro inner wall because pellet and corn-burning appliances produce flue gases that are significantly more acidic and corrosive than wood-burning appliances — the moisture content and combustion byproducts of pellet and corn fuels create condensate with a high acid concentration that would rapidly degrade standard stainless steel grades used in conventional chimney systems. Superferritic grades have a higher chromium content and enhanced resistance to chloride-induced corrosion and acidic environments compared to the 430-grade stainless steel used in DuraTech Class A chimney inner walls. DuraVent developed PelletVent Pro specifically to address the failure of conventional venting materials in pellet and corn appliance installations, and the superferritic inner wall is the key engineering choice that gives PelletVent Pro its long-term corrosion resistance in these applications.

What other PelletVent Pro 4-inch components are used alongside the 4PVP-WS in a complete installation?

A complete PelletVent Pro 4-inch installation using the 4PVP-WS wall strap requires the full set of system components appropriate to the installation configuration specified by the appliance manufacturer. Straight pipe lengths in the 4PVP series provide the vertical and horizontal run sections of the vent. Elbow sections accommodate direction changes. A tee with clean-out cap provides access for inspection and cleaning in through-the-wall installations. A wall thimble is required where the vent passes through a combustible wall. A rain cap or exterior termination cap provides the weathertight termination at the exterior wall or roof penetration. A firestop or radiation shield is required where the vent passes through a combustible ceiling in vertical vent configurations. All components must remain within the PelletVent Pro 4-inch system family and must be confirmed as appropriate for the specific appliance by the appliance manufacturer's installation instructions.
