Description

The DuraVent PelletVent Pro Chimney Adapter, part number 4PVP-X6, is the transition adapter for connecting 4-inch PelletVent Pro vent pipe to an existing 6-inch Class A chimney system — specifically 6-inch DuraTech, DuraPlus, or DuraPlus HTC.

The chimney adapter addresses a common installation scenario in pellet stove retrofits and replacements: the pellet stove has a 4-inch vent outlet, but the existing chimney in the home is a 6-inch Class A chimney originally installed for a wood-burning stove or fireplace. Rather than replacing the entire existing chimney with a new PelletVent Pro system, the 4PVP-X6 allows the 4-inch PelletVent Pro vent run from the appliance to terminate into and utilize the existing 6-inch Class A chimney, preserving the investment in the existing chimney installation.

The 4PVP-X6 is constructed with a laser-welded .012-inch superferritic stainless steel inner wall and a .018-inch laser-welded galvalume outer wall — the same corrosion-resistant superferritic construction used throughout the PelletVent Pro system to resist the acidic condensate produced by pellet and corn flue gases.

A DVL/DuraBlack Chimney Adapter is required to fasten the 4PVP-X6 into the support box or wall thimble of the 6-inch chimney system — for a 6-inch DuraTech, DuraPlus, or DuraPlus HTC system the required DVL/DuraBlack Chimney Adapter is DuraVent adapter 8674. High-temperature sealant is required to seal the adapter at the appliance outlet connection.

The 4PVP-X6 is available in the standard galvalume finish and also in a black painted exterior finish. It is listed to UL 641 and ULC S609, and the PelletVent Pro system is rated for continuous use at flue temperatures up to 570°F with 1-inch clearance to combustibles in the USA.

What's Included: One DuraVent 4PVP-X6 PelletVent Pro 4-inch to 6-inch chimney adapter. DVL/DuraBlack Chimney Adapter 8674 required and sold separately. High-temperature sealant required at appliance outlet connection and sold separately.

Installation Limits: For transitioning 4-inch PelletVent Pro to 6-inch DuraTech, DuraPlus, or DuraPlus HTC only — for transitioning to 7-inch or 8-inch chimneys, use 4PVP-X7 or 4PVP-X8 respectively. DVL/DuraBlack Chimney Adapter 8674 required to fasten into the 6-inch support box or wall thimble. High-temperature sealant required at appliance outlet. Confirm appliance manufacturer's installation instructions before installation. All installation must comply with local building codes and the PelletVent Pro installation instructions.

Compatibility: Transitions 4-inch PelletVent Pro to existing 6-inch DuraTech, DuraPlus, or DuraPlus HTC Class A chimney systems. For use with pellet stoves, corn-burning appliances, biofuel appliances, and oil appliances with a 4-inch vent outlet.

Product FAQ

What installation scenario is the 4PVP-X6 designed for?

The 4PVP-X6 is designed specifically for retrofit and replacement installations where a pellet, corn, biofuel, or oil appliance with a 4-inch vent outlet is being connected to an existing 6-inch Class A chimney — such as a DuraTech, DuraPlus, or DuraPlus HTC system — that was originally installed for a larger wood-burning appliance or that is larger than the 4-inch PelletVent Pro vent system requires. Rather than replacing the entire existing 6-inch Class A chimney with a new 4-inch PelletVent Pro system, the 4PVP-X6 allows the 4-inch PelletVent Pro vent run to transition into the existing larger chimney at the support box or wall thimble level, utilizing the existing chimney infrastructure above that transition point and preserving the investment in the existing chimney installation.

Why is the DVL/DuraBlack Chimney Adapter 8674 required in addition to the 4PVP-X6?

The 6-inch DuraTech, DuraPlus, or DuraPlus HTC support box and wall thimble are designed to accept the DuraTech twist-lock connection interface at their bottom opening, not the PelletVent Pro connection interface. The 4PVP-X6 transitions the PelletVent Pro 4-inch vent run up to the 6-inch diameter, but the top of the 4PVP-X6 still presents the PelletVent Pro connection geometry rather than the DVL/DuraBlack interface that the 6-inch support box or wall thimble requires at its bottom. The DVL/DuraBlack Chimney Adapter 8674 provides the intermediate connection step — it accepts the output of the 4PVP-X6 on one side and presents the DVL/DuraBlack interface that fastens into the 6-inch support box or wall thimble on the other side, completing the mechanical transition between the PelletVent Pro system and the existing 6-inch Class A chimney hardware.

Why is high-temperature sealant required at the appliance outlet but not at the PelletVent Pro twist-lock connections?

The PelletVent Pro twist-lock connections between pipe sections are precision-machined to provide a leak-resistant fit without gaskets or sealants — the tight dimensional tolerance of the twist-lock system creates a sufficiently sealed mechanical joint throughout the vent run. The appliance outlet connection is different because appliance outlets are not manufactured to the same dimensional tolerance as PelletVent Pro pipe sections — the fit between the 4PVP-X6 adapter and the specific appliance outlet can vary depending on the appliance manufacturer, and the connection may not be sufficiently tight without additional sealing. High-temperature sealant applied at the appliance outlet compensates for any dimensional variation at that non-standardized connection point and ensures a leak-tight seal between the adapter and the appliance throughout the thermal cycling of normal operation.

What is the difference between the 4PVP-X6, 4PVP-X7, and 4PVP-X8 chimney adapters?

The 4PVP-X6, 4PVP-X7, and 4PVP-X8 are all PelletVent Pro chimney adapters that transition from 4-inch PelletVent Pro vent pipe to an existing Class A chimney — the difference is the diameter of the existing chimney they are designed to connect to. The 4PVP-X6 connects to a 6-inch existing chimney such as 6-inch DuraTech, DuraPlus, or DuraPlus HTC. The 4PVP-X7 connects to a 7-inch existing chimney of the same systems. The 4PVP-X8 connects to an 8-inch existing chimney. The correct variant must be selected to match the inner diameter of the specific existing chimney system being connected to — the DVL/DuraBlack Chimney Adapter required on the chimney side also varies by chimney diameter.

Is the existing 6-inch Class A chimney suitable for use with a pellet appliance after installing the 4PVP-X6?

Before connecting any pellet appliance to an existing Class A chimney using the 4PVP-X6, the existing chimney must be confirmed as suitable for the pellet appliance's venting requirements by both the pellet appliance manufacturer's installation instructions and the applicable installation codes. Pellet appliances produce low-temperature, high-moisture flue gases that generate acidic condensate, and using an existing chimney originally installed for high-temperature wood-burning operation may result in condensate damage to the chimney liner over time unless the chimney liner material is confirmed as compatible with the pellet appliance's flue gas characteristics. The appliance manufacturer's instructions are the authoritative source for which chimney systems and configurations are approved for use with the specific appliance.

What other PelletVent Pro 4-inch components are used alongside the 4PVP-X6 in a complete installation?

A complete installation using the 4PVP-X6 begins at the appliance outlet with the 4PVP-X6 adapter sealed to the appliance with high-temperature sealant. PelletVent Pro 4-inch straight pipe lengths build the vent run from the adapter to the transition point at the existing 6-inch chimney. Wall straps — the 4PVP-WS fixed or 4PVP-WSA adjustable — support the vent run along the wall at regular intervals. Elbow sections provide any required direction changes in the vent run. The DVL/DuraBlack Chimney Adapter 8674 connects the output of the 4PVP-X6 into the bottom of the existing 6-inch support box or wall thimble. Above the transition into the existing 6-inch chimney, the existing DuraTech, DuraPlus, or DuraPlus HTC components — including the existing storm collar, roof flashing, and chimney cap — remain in service as installed.
