NordicStove Fuel Tank Cap

The fuel tank cap seals the fill opening of the NordicStove portable heavy-duty fuel tank to prevent fuel from spilling during transport and handling, to block debris, moisture, and foreign matter from entering the tank and contaminating the fuel supply, and to prevent evaporative loss of fuel during storage and operation. A properly seated cap also prevents air from entering the tank in a way that would disrupt the gravity-fed fuel flow to the Toby DVR5 oil controller, maintaining consistent oil delivery to the heater throughout the operating cycle.

The fuel tank cap should be replaced when it shows signs of cracking, deformation, or physical damage that prevents a secure and fuel-tight seal at the fill opening, when the cap has been lost, or when it can no longer be tightened securely enough to prevent fuel seepage around the cap threads or seating surface. Because the cap is removed and reinstalled repeatedly during refueling operations across portable and remote installations, wear and damage accumulate over time and periodic inspection of the cap condition is part of the routine maintenance schedule recommended for NordicStove fuel system components.

Before removing the fuel tank cap for inspection or replacement, the fuel supply valve between the tank and the stove should be closed to prevent fuel from flowing into the supply line during the procedure. The tank should be as empty as safely possible, and all open flames in the area must be extinguished before the cap is removed, as fuel vapors can be present at the fill opening. After the replacement cap is installed, it must be tightened securely, and the tank and cap assembly should be inspected for any signs of fuel leakage before the supply valve is reopened and the stove returned to service.

NordicStove heaters use a gravity-fed fuel supply in which the bottom of the fuel tank must be positioned at a height above the base of the heater to ensure consistent oil flow to the Toby DVR5 oil controller. Because the system relies on gravity rather than a pump, the fuel tank cap must maintain a properly vented seal that allows air to enter the tank as fuel drains out, preventing a vacuum from forming inside the tank that would interrupt fuel flow. A damaged or improperly seated cap can disrupt this air-fuel exchange and cause inconsistent or interrupted fuel delivery to the burner.

The NordicStove 50029 fuel tank cap is designed for the NordicStove portable heavy-duty fuel tank used across the NordicStove oil-fired heater series in portable and temporary installation configurations. The cap compatibility is determined by the fuel tank it is designed to seal rather than by the specific heater series, as the 68, 130, 250, and 400 series heaters can all be supplied by the same portable fuel tank in temporary applications. Permanent installations using copper fuel lines and steel or polyethylene storage tanks require tank caps appropriate to those tank configurations rather than the portable tank cap.

The fuel tank cap should be included in the periodic maintenance inspections recommended for all NordicStove fuel system components. At each inspection interval, the cap should be checked for physical integrity, secure seating on the fill opening, and absence of fuel seepage or leakage around the cap threads and seating surface. In portable and transported installations where the tank and cap are subject to more frequent handling and movement, inspection frequency should be increased accordingly to ensure that cap condition remains adequate for safe and leak-free fuel storage and delivery throughout the heating season.
