Description

Description

The DuraVent DuraTech Square Ceiling Support Box, part number 5DT-CS11, is the 11-inch square ceiling support box for the DuraTech 5-inch Class A double-wall all-fuel chimney system.

The 5DT-CS11 provides the two essential functions required at every ceiling or floor penetration in a DuraTech installation: structural support carrying the full weight of the chimney run above it, and the code-required fire separation at the ceiling framing penetration point. At 11 inches in height, the 5DT-CS11 is the shorter of the two square ceiling support box heights available in the DuraTech 5-inch range — suited to thinner ceiling framing assemblies where the 24-inch 5DT-CS24 would extend beyond the available ceiling depth.

The square profile fits between standard 16-inch on-center joists and is compatible with most manufactured home applications.

The 5DT-CS11 includes an integrated starter-coupler and an integrated flue extension — a key distinction from the 5DT-CS24. The integrated flue extension at the bottom of the 5DT-CS11 accepts either single-wall or double-wall stovepipe directly, eliminating the need for a separate DVL or DuraBlack adapter at the support box.

The twist-lock connection at the top of the support box accepts DuraTech chimney pipe. A 2-piece black ceiling trim is included in place of the single-piece trim collar found on the 5DT-CS24. The 5DT-CS11 is suitable for both flat and cathedral — A-Frame — ceiling applications and can also be used in short attic spaces per the DuraTech installation instructions. It supports up to 60 feet of DuraTech chimney above it, is painted black, and is listed to UL 103 HT and ULC S604 (MH7399).

DuraVent's limited lifetime warranty applies when installed by a qualified professional installer.

What's Included: One DuraVent 5DT-CS11 DuraTech 5-inch 11-inch square ceiling support box, painted black, with integrated starter-coupler, integrated flue extension, and 2-piece black ceiling trim.

Installation Limits: Supports up to 60 feet of DuraTech chimney above it. Fits between standard 16-inch on-center joists. The integrated flue extension accepts single-wall or double-wall stovepipe directly — no separate adapter required. All installation must comply with local building codes and the DuraTech installation instructions. DuraVent limited lifetime warranty applies only when installed by a qualified professional installer.

Compatibility: Compatible with the DuraVent DuraTech 5-inch Class A double-wall all-fuel chimney system. Product FAQ

What is the key advantage of the 5DT-CS11's integrated flue extension over the 5DT-CS24's design?

The 5DT-CS11 includes an integrated flue extension at the bottom of the support box that accepts either single-wall or double-wall stovepipe directly, without requiring a separate adapter. In contrast, the 5DT-CS24 requires a separate DVL or DuraBlack chimney adapter to be ordered and installed when connecting stovepipe from the appliance to the support box bottom. The integrated flue extension of the 5DT-CS11 simplifies the installation by reducing the total number of components required to connect the appliance stovepipe to the chimney system at the support box, and eliminates a potential additional connection joint at that location. For installations where stovepipe connects directly to the support box bottom, the 5DT-CS11's integrated design is more streamlined.

When should the 5DT-CS11 11-inch box be selected over the 5DT-CS24 24-inch box?

The 5DT-CS11 11-inch box is selected when the depth of the ceiling framing assembly at the penetration point is shallower than required for the 24-inch 5DT-CS24. The ceiling support box must span the full depth of the ceiling framing assembly at the penetration — from the bottom of the ceiling to the top of the framing — so that the box fills the framing cavity completely. A standard joist-framed ceiling with nominal 2-inch by 10-inch or 2-inch by 12-inch framing members, insulation, and subfloor above will typically require the taller 24-inch box, while thinner ceiling assemblies — such as those with shallower joist depths or in manufactured home construction where ceiling framing depth is limited — are better suited to the 11-inch box. The DuraTech installation instructions provide guidance on matching the support box height to the ceiling assembly depth.

What does the 2-piece black ceiling trim do and how does it differ from a single trim collar?

The 2-piece black ceiling trim included with the 5DT-CS11 performs the same decorative finishing function as a single-piece trim collar — it covers the gap between the support box and the surrounding ceiling surface at the interior ceiling level, providing a clean finished appearance at the penetration point. The 2-piece design allows the trim to be installed around the pipe after the support box is already in place, which can simplify the finishing step in installations where sliding a single-piece collar over the pipe before connecting it to the support box is inconvenient. Both pieces fit together to encircle the pipe at the ceiling surface and are painted black to match the support box and the DuraTech system components visible in the installation space.

Is the 5DT-CS11 suitable for manufactured home installations?

Yes. The 5DT-CS11 is confirmed as compatible with most manufactured home applications. Manufactured homes often have shallower ceiling framing assemblies than site-built homes — this is one of the installation scenarios for which the 11-inch box height is well suited, as the shorter box depth matches the reduced framing depth typically found in manufactured home ceiling construction. The 5DT-CS11 fits between standard 16-inch on-center joists consistent with the framing used in most manufactured home construction. DuraTech chimney installations in manufactured homes must comply with the HUD Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standards as well as local building codes in addition to the DuraTech installation instructions.

Can the 5DT-CS11 be used in a cathedral ceiling application?

Yes. The 5DT-CS11 is confirmed as suitable for both flat and cathedral — A-Frame — ceiling applications. In a cathedral ceiling installation, the support box must be installed through the angled ceiling framing at the penetration point to allow the chimney pipe to pass through vertically. The DuraTech installation instructions provide specific guidance on how to correctly frame and install the ceiling support box through an angled cathedral ceiling assembly to maintain the required vertical chimney pipe alignment and maintain proper clearances through the angled ceiling framing. The 11-inch box height of the 5DT-CS11 must be sufficient to span the full depth of the cathedral ceiling framing assembly at the penetration point — if the cathedral framing assembly is deeper than 11 inches, the 5DT-CS24 24-inch box must be used instead.

What DuraTech 5-inch components complete a system using the 5DT-CS11?

A complete DuraTech 5-inch installation using the 5DT-CS11 requires straight pipe sections above the support box — the 5DT-06SS, 5DT-09SS, 5DT-12SS, 5DT-24SS, 5DT-36SS, 5DT-48SS, and 5DT-60SSCF in combinations calculated to achieve the required total installed height. The 5DT-IS attic insulation shield is required if the chimney run passes through an attic above the support box level. The 5DT-FRS firestop radiation shield manages any intermediate floor or ceiling penetrations above the support box. A roof flashing matched to the roof pitch, the 5DT-SC storm collar, and a chimney cap complete the exterior termination. Elbow kits 5DT-E15KSS or 5DT-E30KSS accommodate any offset routing required. The integrated flue extension of the 5DT-CS11 accepts the stovepipe from the appliance below without a separate adapter.
