The three-piece panel configuration covers the transition area around the fireplace opening perimeter, providing the backing layer required to complete the faceplate installation with a finished appearance. The backing plate is also the required mounting base for the optional AC01323 projection kit, which cannot be installed without a backing plate in place.

The AC01323 projection kit provides 2-inch to 4-inch depth adjustment for Matrix insert installations where the fireplace surround projects outward from the wall surface, allowing the insert faceplate installation to accommodate this projection. To install the AC01323 projection kit, one of either the AC01322 or AC01332 faceplate backing plate kits must be purchased separately, as the projection kit mounts to and is secured by the backing plate. The AC01322 is the required backing plate for projection kit installations covering a 29-inch by 44-inch faceplate area. Owners planning a projection kit installation must order both the AC01322 and the AC01323.

The AC01322 and AC01332 are both three-piece faceplate backing plate kits for the Osburn Matrix insert and are functionally identical. The difference is the coverage width — the AC01322 covers a 29-inch by 44-inch faceplate area while the AC01332 covers a 29-inch by 50-inch faceplate area. The correct size to select depends on the dimensions of the existing fireplace opening and the faceplate coverage area required for the specific installation. The same AC01323 projection kit is compatible with both backing plate sizes.

The AC01322 backing plate works with the Matrix insert cast iron faceplate assembly SE24247, which consists of the bottom cast iron faceplate panel 24247, the top cast iron faceplate panel 24248, the left cast iron faceplate panel 24249, and the right cast iron faceplate panel 24250. The AC01321 bottom faceplate backing plate panel measuring 44 inches by 6 inches provides the lower surround panel below the fireplace opening when used alongside the AC01322. When the AC01323 projection kit is selected, it mounts to the AC01322 backing plate and provides the depth adjustment layer between the backing plate and the cast iron faceplate assembly.

The AC01322 faceplate backing plate kit contains three panel pieces that together provide the 29-inch by 44-inch faceplate backing coverage for the Matrix insert installation. The three-piece configuration allows the backing plate surround to be positioned around the three sides of the fireplace opening perimeter covered by the faceplate assembly. All three pieces are included in a single kit and are installed together following the AC01322 faceplate backing plate installation instructions provided with the kit.

Installation of the AC01322 faceplate backing plate must be performed in accordance with the faceplate backing plate installation instructions provided with the kit and the Osburn Matrix insert owner's manual. All faceplate installation work should be carried out with the insert fully cooled before any faceplate or backing plate components are handled or fitted to the fireplace opening. The correct backing plate size must be confirmed against the faceplate coverage dimensions required for the specific installation before ordering, and if the optional AC01323 projection kit is also being installed, it must be ordered separately alongside the AC01322 as the projection kit does not include the backing plate.
