The SE30080 kit includes one pyro-ceramic replacement glass panel measuring 11-1/4 inches by 15-3/16 inches with a pre-fitted gasket for the Osburn Austral wood stove door viewing window. The glass provides the clear firebox viewing surface in the stove door, and the pre-fitted gasket provides the airtight seal between the glass panel and the door frame required to maintain the door assembly's combustion air management integrity during stove operation.

Pyro-ceramic glass is engineered specifically for high-temperature applications and can withstand continuous combustion temperatures far beyond the failure threshold of tempered glass. Tempered glass is not suitable for wood stove door applications because it can fail catastrophically at temperatures a wood stove routinely reaches during normal operation. Pyro-ceramic glass also exhibits minimal thermal expansion across a wide temperature range, maintaining its dimensional stability against the door frame gasket channel through the full operating temperature range of the stove.

The door glass should be replaced when it develops cracks that compromise the airtight integrity of the door assembly, when the glass surface has become permanently obscured from carbonization that cannot be removed through normal glass cleaning, or when the glass has been physically damaged during servicing, maintenance, or wood loading. A cracked door glass must not be operated, as the breach in the door seal will disrupt the firebox's combustion air control and may allow combustion gases to escape into the living space.

All glass replacement must be performed only when the stove is fully cooled to ambient temperature, as contact with any part of the heated door assembly poses a severe burn hazard. The pyro-ceramic glass must be handled carefully and must not be subjected to mechanical shock or impact during removal of the old glass or fitting of the new panel, as the glass can crack under impact force even at ambient temperature. The gasket channel in the door frame must be thoroughly cleaned of all remnants of the old gasket material before the new glass and gasket kit is fitted to ensure a proper seal. All glass replacement must follow the instructions in the Osburn Austral owner's manual.

The door glass seals the firebox viewing opening in the door assembly through the pre-fitted gasket and is an integral part of the firebox's combustion air management system. The airtight door seal directs combustion air through the stove's controlled air intake rather than allowing uncontrolled air infiltration through the door face, which is essential to maintaining the proper air-to-fuel ratio for efficient and clean combustion. A compromised door glass seal resulting from a cracked or improperly fitted glass disrupts this air control and degrades combustion performance.

The Osburn Austral is a wood stove in a metallic black finish with a 6-inch flue pipe diameter requiring a minimum vertical flue height of 12 feet. It accommodates a maximum log length of 17-1/2 inches and has a combustion chamber measuring 17-3/4 inches wide by 10 inches deep with a volume of 1.85 cubic feet. The stove's overall dimensions are 24-1/8 inches wide by 22 inches deep by 21-1/2 inches high. The stove has a heating capacity of 42,400 BTU per hour at EPA test conditions.
