Duravent Stove Pipe DuraTech Chimney Pipe SS, 5" x 24"

The 5DT-24SS fills the planning increment between the shorter 9-inch and 12-inch sections and the longer 36-inch section in the DuraTech 5-inch stainless steel range. A complete DuraTech chimney run requires combining pipe sections of different nominal lengths to achieve a precise total installed height — typically starting with as many 36-inch or longer sections as possible to minimize the number of joints, then using shorter sections to achieve the exact remaining height needed. The 24-inch section is particularly useful when a run requires a two-foot increment that cannot be covered efficiently by the 12-inch section alone or that would require an unnecessarily large number of shorter sections. Using combinations of 36-inch, 24-inch, 12-inch, and 9-inch sections allows most required chimney heights to be achieved precisely after the 1-1/4-inch per joint deductions are applied.

The nominal length of the 5DT-24SS is 24 inches. DuraTech pipe sections overlap at each joint connection, and DuraVent specifies that 1-1/4 inches must be subtracted from each joint overlap when calculating the installed length of a DuraTech pipe section. For a 24-inch nominal section with one overlap connection, the installed length contribution to the chimney run is approximately 22-3/4 inches after the joint deduction. This deduction must be applied at every connection point throughout the full chimney run when calculating total installed height before ordering components — ordering based on nominal lengths without applying the joint deduction will result in a chimney run that is taller than planned.

DuraVent's general guidelines recommend a minimum chimney height of 10 to 15 feet above the appliance outlet for a straight vertical DuraTech installation at sea level. Installations at higher elevations, or those incorporating elbows or tee sections, require approximately 30 to 60 percent more height above the minimum to compensate for the reduced draft associated with those configurations. Building codes additionally require the chimney termination cap to be positioned at least 3 feet above the roof penetration point and at least 2 feet higher than any portion of the building within 10 feet of the chimney. When planning the chimney run, pipe section lengths should be selected to meet these minimum height requirements after all joint overlap deductions are applied.

The 5DT-24SS is suitable for use with any appliance that has been tested and listed for use with a 2,100°F HT chimney system and that has a 5-inch flue collar or connector pipe outlet. This includes wood stoves, wood fireplaces, factory-built zero-clearance fireplaces, furnaces, boilers, ranges, water heaters, and other appliances fueled by wood, oil, coal, or gas. The appliance's installation documentation or certification label will confirm whether it requires a Class A HT chimney system and the required flue diameter. The 5-inch inner diameter of the 5DT-24SS must match the specified chimney diameter for the appliance being installed.

DuraVent's limited lifetime warranty requires annual inspection, maintenance, and cleaning by a certified chimney sweep, with each inspection documented on the warranty card provided with the system. Annual chimney inspections are also required for safety — they identify creosote accumulation, physical damage to pipe sections, joint separation, and other conditions that must be corrected before the heating season. Regular cleaning keeps creosote accumulation below ignition levels, reducing the risk of a chimney fire. In the event of a chimney fire, the entire DuraTech system must be inspected and approved by a certified chimney sweep before the appliance and chimney are returned to service.

A complete DuraTech 5-inch chimney installation using the 5DT-24SS as one of the vertical pipe sections typically also includes the 5DT-36SS for long vertical runs, and shorter 5DT-09SS or 5DT-12SS sections to fine-tune the total height. The 5DT-CS24 ceiling support box or 5DT-FRS firestop radiation shield manages ceiling and floor penetrations. The 5DT-IS attic insulation shield is required if the run passes through an attic. A roof flashing, storm collar, and chimney cap complete the exterior termination. Elbow kits 5DT-E15KSS or 5DT-E30KSS accommodate offset routing around structural obstructions. All components must remain within the DuraTech 5-inch system family to maintain system listing and warranty validity.
