MONITOR vented kerosene heaters have been DISCONTINUED since 2011 and are NO LONGER AVAILABLE and OEM Parts are no longer being produced. For the hundreds of loyal Monitor dealers and hundreds of thousands of MONITOR customers, this has caused some confusion and anxiety. Fortunately, TOYOTOMI, the manufacturer of TOYOSTOVE and OIL MISER direct vent heating systems and water heaters is fully committed and eager to continue its vented heater and water heater business in the United States and Canada for the long term. TOYOTOMI has been in business -since 1949 and is the world's largest manufacturer of kerosene and fuel oil heating products and a leading producer of portable air conditioners.

TOYOTOMI would like to thank our long-time loyal TOYOSTOVE - dealers and customers for their support and welcome those new dealers and customers who may have formerly sold or purchased MONITOR vented heaters.

TOYOTOMI is excited about the future of TOYOTOMI- heating products. We believe that our products provide the most fuel-efficient heaters available. We have been distributing the highest quality kerosene and fuel oil heating products in the U.S. and Canada -since 1978. The TOYOTOMI- line of direct vent heating systems are of equal or superior quality to the MONITOR direct vent heating systems and most technicians feel our heaters are easier to service. We also have a more extensive line of heaters and, more importantly, we are the manufacturer of our heaters. Plus, TOYOTOMI - heaters are the only direct vented Heaters available that are Manufacturer-approved to operate with Ultra Low Sulfur Heating Oil/Diesel in addition to K-1 Kerosene and No. 1 Low Sulfur Fuel Oil.

Thank you again for your support. We, at TOYOTOMI, look forward to continuing to serve you now and in the future.

People Also Ask:

Q. What Information Should I Have Ready Before I Contact Rural Energy?

A. Four things make the conversation fast. First, your Monitor model number, which is on the data plate inside the front access panel, on the rear of the cabinet near the vent collar, or on the underside. Second, the fuel it burns, shown on the same plate as kerosene or K-1, No. 1 or No. 2 fuel oil, LP or natural gas. Third, the output rating in BTUs from that plate. Fourth, the approximate square footage the unit heats. If the plate is missing or unreadable, tell us what you can see at the fuel connection and we will work from there. Our Monitor heater identification guide walks through each step with photographs of where to look.

Q. Does This Apply If My Monitor Runs on Propane or Natural Gas?

A. Contact us, because the replacement path is different. Toyostove Laser heaters burn liquid fuel, kerosene or approved heating oil grades, and cannot be connected to a gas supply. A propane or natural gas Monitor needs a direct-vent gas heater instead, which is a different appliance class rather than a like-for-like swap. For propane, the closest current equivalent we carry is the Rinnai EX38DTP direct-vent wall furnace, which uses the same through-the-wall venting concept and needs no chimney. For natural gas, call us to discuss current options, since the correct unit depends on your supply type and pressure. Confirm your fuel type from the data plate before assuming which path applies to you.

Q. Do I Need to Remove My Old Monitor Heater Before Ordering?

A. No. Order first, then remove. Keeping the old unit in place until the replacement arrives means you are not without heat while you wait, which matters in cold-climate homes where the heater is the primary heat source. Removal and installation are usually handled together in a single visit by a qualified technician, since the vent penetration, fuel line and electrical connection all need attention at the same time. Talk to us before scheduling anything, because the replacement model you choose can affect what the installer needs to do at the wall opening. If you are arranging your own installer, our dealer and store locator can help you find someone familiar with direct-vent equipment in your area.

Q. What Is the Difference Between Toyostove and Oil Miser?

A. Both are Toyotomi product lines and both are sealed-combustion, direct-vent liquid-fuel appliances, but they serve different jobs. Toyostove is the space-heating line, the direct replacement class for a Monitor vented heater, and includes the Laser models. Oil Miser covers Toyotomi's water-heating side. If you are replacing a Monitor space heater, the Toyostove Laser line is where to look; if you are also replacing a Monitor water heater, that is the Oil Miser side of the range. Many homes running Monitor equipment had both, which is why the two names appear together. Browse the full range on the Toyotomi brand page to see how the two lines sit alongside each other.

Q. Could Toyostove Heaters Be Discontinued the Way Monitor Heaters Were?

A. It is a fair question to ask after living through one discontinuation, and no manufacturer can promise a product line forever. What can be said is structural rather than promotional. Toyotomi manufactures its own heaters rather than sourcing them, has supplied the North American market since 1978, and continues to release current-generation models. The practical protection for any buyer is the same in every category: choose a line the manufacturer is actively producing and supporting, so parts and service follow the appliance through its service life. That is exactly the position Monitor owners found themselves outside of. Current models and their available parts are listed on the Toyotomi brand page and in Toyotomi parts.

Q. I Used to Sell Monitor Heaters. Can I Become a Toyostove Dealer?

A. Yes, dealer inquiries are welcome, and former Monitor dealers are exactly the audience this transition was designed for. Many shops that carried Monitor vented heaters already have the service knowledge, the customer base and the installation experience that transfers directly to Toyostove equipment. Rural Energy is a wholesale distributor of Toyotomi direct-vent heating systems, so the conversation covers stocking, parts access and technical support rather than a single sale. Start with our dealer application, or call the sales line and ask for the dealer program. If you are weighing it up, the questions worth raising are territory, parts availability for your existing installed base, and training for your service technicians.

Q. Who Can Service a Toyostove Once It Is Installed?

A. Any technician competent with sealed-combustion, direct-vent liquid-fuel appliances can service a Toyostove, and many of the shops that serviced Monitor heaters now work on them. Because the appliance class and the venting principle are the same, the skills carry over, which is a large part of why the transition works. Annual service matters more than the brand does: clean fuel, a clean burner and an intact vent are what determine how long any of these units last. Rural Energy runs a dedicated technical support line for installers and owners, and you can reach it through our technical support page. To find a shop near you, start with the store locator.

Q. Should I Replace My Monitor Water Heater at the Same Time?

A. Not necessarily, and the two decisions are independent. A Monitor water heater and a Monitor space heater are separate appliances that happen to share a brand and a discontinuation date, so one failing does not mean the other is due. There is a practical argument for doing both together when the units are of similar age and a technician is already on site, since a single visit covers both fuel connections and both vent penetrations. There is an equally good argument for replacing only what needs replacing. Judge each on its own condition, service history and parts situation. Current oil-fired water heating options are on our oil water heating page, and we are happy to look at both units with you.

Q. What Happens If I Wait Until After the Current Offer Period?

A. Replacement heaters remain available either way. The offer above runs for a defined period, and the terms available after it are a question for us directly rather than something to assume. The more useful thing to weigh is timing rather than the offer. Heating equipment demand rises as the season builds, and a heater replaced in the fall is a planned job while a heater replaced in January is an emergency one, usually at a worse moment and with less choice of model. If your Monitor is running well and you are simply planning ahead, there is no urgency. If it has already had a failure you could not get a part for, that is the signal to move. Call us and we will tell you where things stand.

Q. Can I See the Replacement Models Before I Commit to Anything?

A. Yes, and it is worth doing before you call, because knowing roughly which output class fits your space makes the conversation much shorter. The Toyostove Laser line runs from smaller room heaters up to units sized for primary heating in cold climates: the Laser 303/304 for single rooms and supplemental heat; the Laser 531/532, 533, and 534 for medium spaces; and the Laser 731/732, 733, and 734 for larger areas. The 533, 534, 733, and 734 add Wi-Fi and Bluetooth control. Each product page carries the BTU output. Match yours to the rating on your Monitor's data plate, not to its model number, because the two numbering systems are unrelated. If you fall between two output classes, a space that was always slightly cool with the old heater is usually a signal to step up rather than match exactly. Tell us the rating and the square footage and we will narrow it with you.
